Welcome to Waves and Water Sangha

DEAR FRIENDS –

Waves and Water Sangha Vancouver is a community of practice in the engaged Buddhist tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. We currently gather on Zoom every Sunday evening from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. In the first hour we practice two periods of sitting meditation (20 minutes each). After each sitting we maintain our mindfulness with movement meditation (8 minutes).

In the second hour we have a program of study and practice presented by members of the Caretaking Council or core members of the Sangha. Most Sundays include small break-out groups for Dharma Discussion.

NOTE: We are currently trying out a  part-time hybrid return to in-person practice on the last Sunday of each month, starting March 29 2026 (March 29, April 26, May 31,  June 28, July 26). The regular Sangha gatherings will be from 6 pm-8pm at Mountain Rain Zen Community – 2016 Wall St, Vancouver.  Please note that we will begin 30 minutes earlier on the last Sundays.  The zoom link is given below.

On March 29 and May 31, we will also be offering a Day of Mindfulness beginning at 3:30 pm and flowing into the evening sangha gathering, ending at 7:30 PM.  Please bring a bag meal for a formal evening meal.  Tea will be provided You are welcome to join in person or via Zoom.  Please RSVP.  By donation.

We have a pattern of practice throughout the month.  First Sundays of each month, we recite and reflect on a version of the Mindfulness Trainings (Five, Fourteen, Diversity, New Paradigm, etc.). This may involve a full Ceremony of Recitation.

We practice and study using  materials from Chanting from the Heart or other Plum Village resources, including practice songs, Touching the Earth and Deep Relaxation.

We engage with readings from authors in the Plum Village tradition. These readings often focus on deep ecology and the nature of interbeing.

If you would like to receive updates about Waves and Water Sangha activities, subscribe via email to our blog posts via Email to our Blogpost. You can find the “subscribe” box under Thich Nhat Hanh’s photograph in the right hand column of all website pages. We rarely have more than one blogpost per month. If we have more than one, it is probably because there is an immediate change that we want to communicate!

Waves and Water Sangha manifested in the fall of 2011. From the beginning, we have been supported by a Sangha Caretaking Council. Our practice together is loving and full of kindness. Contact a member of the Caretaking Council for more information.

We take refuge in our own awakened nature, in the teachings and in each other. Please join us!
